Price Point and Marketing by Albert Robbins III

In the days, weeks and months since I have jumped head first into the Indie Author world, I have noticed some pretty consistent themes.  It seems that every author asks themselves the same two questions over and over.  What should I price my book at?  How much marketing should I do?

I am not going to pretend that I am some sort of expert in these areas but I will give a few of my own bits of advice.  You can take this as you see fit,  useful or hot air.

Price Point

I have seen authors, including a rather long discussion on IWU, that argue all sides to this dilema. As authors you want to price what you think it is worth and not belittle you work by pricing it lower than you absolutely have to and therefore the ... [Read More]

#3 in Movers and Shakers on Amazon. What!?!

Movers and Shakers 3

Yesterday afternoon, I turned on my computer to check sales for my novel, [amazon_link id="B004JU21YU" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Life is But a Dream[/amazon_link]. The novel was published a little over three months ago, and I am thrilled to write that I have been averaging between 20 and 30 sales per day for this month. So, I was expecting to see about 12 or so sales for the day since it was early in the afternoon. Instead, the numbers indicated that I had already sold 73 copies for that day. My ranking was at 590 for the Kindle Store (all sales out of a million titles on Kindle) and 40 in Kindle Literary Fiction.

I would like to tell you that I pumped my arm into the air and yelled, “Right on!” or “Woo Hoo!” or ... [Read More]

East of Eden and Me? (or #99 in Literary Fiction – What?)

This is going to be a short entry. For, you see, it is very difficult to write (or even see) when you are alternately crying and laughing. For today, at this very moment, my first novel, [amazon_link id="B004JU21YU" target="_blank" container="" container_class="" ]Life is But a Dream [/amazon_link]is at an overall ranking (of ALL Kindle sales) of 1956. Wow! That means I am in the top 2000 of everything being sold on Kindle right now. Amazing!

And the book has been out for less than three months !!!

But here is the source of all of the laughter and tears - I am in the TOP 100 OF LITERARY FICTION!  I am at #99 - right behind my favorite book of all time #98 East of Eden. Come on! Really!?! I am imagining God giving me a ... [Read More]

First Sales Are the Sweetest

I am thoroughly enjoying my first month as a real life honest to goodness published writer. It is a new time. A tender time of watching and waiting The unfurling and blossoming of a long-held dream. Every sale of my novel, [amazon_link id="B004JU21YU" target="_blank" ]Life is But a Dream[/amazon_link], is exciting. Every single sale. Should the novel be successful, my sales will increase rapidly, but right now I am enjoying “the beginning” because it will never be the beginning again. I rejoice over every copy sold and treasure every email I receive from a new reader. These sales will probably always be the most precious to me.

So – here is a report on my sales so far (in order of their appearance on the venue):

Amazon Kindle – 55 ... [Read More]
